Search hits Sat, Mar 5. 2005


I have a log analyzer on my web server that has an interesting feature which parses referrer URLs for search strings from the major search engines. While most of the search strings make some sort of sense, some leave me completely bewildered. I can't figure out why my site came up as a hit. Here are some of my favorites:


  • angry ducks and video

  • underwater girls photos

  • a real photo of girls wearing condom

  • gang symbols

  • loitering

  • emotional retardation

Yet another redesign Sun, Aug 29. 2004


I was playing around a bit with the stylesheet for the site, experimenting with a new look, and afterward the old design suffered in comparison. So, a new design.

Switched to WordPress Wed, Aug 25. 2004


I've switched the site from MovableType to WordPress (well, a modified version that runs on PostgreSQL) and cleaned up some lingering problems with parts of the server (CSS problems, some colors I wasn't happy with, broken links).

Templates updated Thu, Apr 15. 2004


I'm slowly getting things back together, template-wise. I've also fixed up some of the problems with my previous templates, and gotten rid of the annoying "feature" of Movabletype where you must open a popup to add or read comments.

Ugly, ugly, ugly... Wed, Mar 31. 2004


Due to a server crash, I've had to recreate my site based on incomplete backups (including all my work on the blog stylesheets and templates). sigh

The broken links and so on are hopefully temporary nuisances.

Finally Sat, Feb 14. 2004


I finally fixed the bugs with Internet Explorer with the site, and updated the logos for the main site and desiderata. It's a pain in the ass to code around IE not recognizing the alpha layer of PNGs, and since I never look at the site in IE anyway, I kept on putting it off.

The relentless march of penis enlargement capitalism Tue, Sep 16. 2003


I've deleted some strange comments from extremely old blog entries that have only a passing relevence to the story at hand.

I can only conclude that it's a new method of email harvesting, where some program analyzes a blog entry, picks some nouns, and frames a question in the comment using those nouns. Any responses are added to spammers lists.

So far, I've got such a low-traffic site that this is an occasional nuisance, but I can see this getting real annoying, real fast.

Redesign Mon, Jul 21. 2003


I've (obviously) redesigned desiderata a bit over the last few days, mostly to match the style of the rest of the site.

I've still got a few kinks to work out, mostly related to IE's braindead half-support of PNGs. There's really no reason why I should have to use Javascript and CSS to display a damn image correctly.

Anyway, if people hate it or love it, let me know.

Paper anniversary Sat, May 24. 2003


It looks like yesterday was the paper (i.e. first) anniversary of this here site. I'll celebrate by downing this bottle of Robitussin (ah, the sweet, sweet kiss of expectorant!).

Tinkering Sat, May 24. 2003


I'm just tinkering a little bit with the design of both the main site and desiderata. I've added a colophon page, something I've been wanting to do for a while.

I've also added myself to GeoURL, a service that maps URLs to coordinates on the globe. It looks like I've got a few neighbors here.

There'll be some more design changes forthcoming, particularly if this damn sore throat doesn't clear up. 8^(

IE problems with photos Wed, Jul 10. 2002


For some reason, Internet Explorer doesn't render the pages in the photo section properly if I have a script tag in the head of the HTML, so I've been removing them. Currently, Portland and Ireland are done, and I'll get the other soon.
